Every year on March 8th, International Women's Day is celebrated by millions of women throughout the world. This is a solidarity day of all women who struggled for equality of rights and emancipation. The holiday is an opportunity to remember the struggles of women throughout history as well as the achievements they have made. During the 8th of March different events are held (such as concerts and demonstrations). The events cover women’s achievements as well as the problems that women face.
International Women's Day originated at an international congress in 1910 in Copenhagen, Denmark. This congress was attended by women from 17 different countries. At that congress, a woman from Germany named Clara Zetkin suggested setting a special date to celebrate each year as an international women’s day. That day women would have an opportunity to hold special events and demonstrations in order to attract public’s attention to their problems.
